Lumen-Worm

These small flying worm-like insects inhabit the younger areas of the Ancient Forest where the trees are darker and much smaller.Normally nocturnal these insects are the main species that bore holes in the trees in the entire forest,Living deep within them some even living their entire lives in these networks of tunnels and these worms are pale and partially translucent.During the entire Summer and Fall they'll travel far deeper into the Ancient Forest to breed,And the males will hug a tree tightly and wave their bulbous tails around and flash the bioluminescent bulb until they attract a mate. The younger regions of the Ancient Forest are quite less hostile as the trees are quite small and tightly packed together,Making it hard for most the of the predators of the older regions to navigate,But the "Fishermen Fungi" are quite the problem to many of the insects of this region luring unlucky insects in with a sweet Cherry-like scent and ensnaring them with viscous digestive liquids.During the day Lumen-Worms will retreat into a tree and either bore-out more tunnels or simply sleep until dusk,And once dusk comes they'll begin searching for food preferably Velvet Vines,Young Glassed-Limes,Canteen-Caps and Filter Stems. The Lumen-Worm is susceptible to a species of Cordyceps called "Dragons Tongue" which affect the worm like the Cordyceps of Earth,And when the worms reach their final resting place the Dragons Tongue will burst violently from the worm and the brightly colored fungi will burst forth from the worms body,Lightly billowing like a flame and releasing a slew of ember colored spores. These insects grow and breed at extremely quick rates,As the young grow into fully grown adults within 2 weeks and the adults will die within 2 years,And the females will lay over 150 eggs deep within a tree and defend them until they hatch into small pale green larva.
