I would recommend looking at reference images for Splatoon characters. Probably look up hairstyles, wether they be in-game hairstyles or custom/made up ones. Maybe get a general idea of how they look. Pointy ears, dark mask around their eyes, suction cups under their tentacles. Clothes don't really matter, but you can draw your own.
