I'm new here and this is something I would like to know how to do. Please help
You'll want to start with a palette of 3-5 shades. I typically start with the darkest and fill in the whole area of the grass. You'll move up in shades until you get to your lightest. With your second darkest, you'll begin defining the lighter areas. You'll want to know where your light is coming from and place the lighter colors in larger clumps nearest the light with small blades of grass sticking up. You can start with a bunch of really messy shoots and then eyeball them and remove the pixels you don't like. For thin blades of grass, you'll want to have a lot of little vertical lines in the texture. You'll repeat this process until you have used your lightest color. Try looking at something like this - http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/122845.htm or this - http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/104865.htm
Let me tell you, buddy, there's a faster gun comin' over yonder when tomorrow comes. Let me tell you buddy, and it won't be long before you find yourself singin' your last cowboy song.
I made a little tutorial gif for you https://www.pixilart.com/art/grass-tutorial-a2d22e4d1096c53
